Hi Besties!
Did you know that your lifestyle has a major impact on your skin? Sometimes you've tried all the products out there and you still don't see any change. Maybe it is something else!
Here are 5 factors that can also affect your skin, causing pimples, fine lines, redness, etc.
1. Sleep
Sleep is very important. We already knew this. Did you also know that if you don't get enough sleep, your skin also deteriorates? Do you miss that radiant skin? Do you have dark circles around your eyes or perhaps dry skin?
Try to get at least 7 or 8 hours of sleep every night. Does this not work? You can always take a nap during the day. It is important that you get enough rest. Who knows, this could be the only thing missing from your skincare routine!
2. Nutrition
Everyone likes tasty, greasy food with lots of cheese sometimes. Maybe you like very sweet foods. Just think of candy or chocolate. Unfortunately, eating too much of this type of food can not only affect your health, but also your skin. Too many sugars damage collagen and elastin in the skin, which causes skin aging. Dairy products can also contribute to acne.
This does not mean that you should stop eating these products completely. Try to reduce it to once a week, for example. Then see this day as a cheat day!
IMPORTANT: always drink enough water! Drink at least 1.5l of water per day to stay hydrated. You will soon notice this in your skin.
3. Excessive exposure to UV rays
A well-known and major culprit for the skin is too many UV rays. For example, exposing your skin to sunlight for too long can be harmful. Therefore, always use a sunscreen. It is not enough to apply the sunscreen once during the day, especially on sunny days. Reapply the sunscreen every two hours when exposed to the sun. What can also help is wearing a hat or cap.
You don't just wear sunscreen in the summer or during hot days! Even in winter it is important to protect your skin from the sun's UV rays!
4. Not properly cleansing the skin
It often happens that pimples or other blemishes can occur when the skin is not properly cleansed. Think of leftover make-up or creams. Or simply dirt from when you go outside. It is very important that your skin is clean before you can use skincare effectively.
A good example of this is the popular Korean double cleansing. This means that you clean your face in the evening not only with the water-based cleanser, but also with an oil cleanser. An oil cleanser removes all the stubborn impurities that a water-based cleanser cannot. Think of leftover make-up (waterproof make-up), external dirt and creams such as sunscreen. This oil cleanser is only used in the evening as the first step of your routine. After this, use the cleanser and continue with your skincare routine.
5. Hormonal or medication
Of course, it may also be that the acne or other skin problems you have are hormonal. Maybe you are still going through puberty or are you pregnant? Many women also experience changes in their skin during their period.
Are you on a certain medication? This can also have an impact on your skin. If this persists, it is best to discuss this with your doctor. Sometimes you will also have to be patient. Before you know it, things will be much better!
HINT:
Do you not necessarily suffer from acne, but do you suddenly have a large pimple on your face? Place some ice on it to calm the swelling and use a pimple patch to draw out the sebum. Whatever you do, keep your hands off them!
